Jennifer joined Serenity Projects, on a full-time basis, in April 1997, to
head up the Technical Division. This section is responsible for training and development
in the areas of database systems, programming, enterprise systems and the Internet.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Jennifer's technical career began when at the age of 10,
she placed 4th among 10,000 students in the country in the High School Entrance Exam. This
qualified her to attend the Bishops' High School where she majored in Science and
Mathematics, graduating with the University of London's General Certificate of Education
at the Ordinary Level in 8 subjects and at the Advanced Level in 3 subjects. After leaving
high school, Jennifer taught at various high schools in Guyana.
In 1977, Jennifer started college at The Ohio State University, where she majored in
Computer Science and Mathematics. Jennifer graduated in 1979 with her Bachelor of Science
in Computer Science and Mathematics with distinction in Computer Science. She stayed on
for another year to receive her Masters in Computer Science. While attending college,
Jennifer was working as a Teaching Assistant with programming classes such as COBOL
and PL/1. After college, Jennifer continued to lecture her favorite programming language -
IBM/370 Assembler.
Jennifer's first post-graduate job, in 1981, was as a Researcher at Battelle Memorial
Institute, a large, privately-owned research organization. Here, Jennifer was part of a
group supporting an existing hierarchical database system called BASIS, and developing a
new relational database management system called DM. Jennifer remained with this group as
it was spun off as Information Dimensions, Inc. (IDI) to focus on the second-generation of
Basis/DM - the new Document Management System, BASISplus. Among Jennifer's duties at IDI
were the project management and development of the Database Administrator's modules and
associated utilities for BASISplus.
Working in software development gave Jennifer experience in programming for multiple
platforms and the issues associated with porting software to different operating systems.
Later, Jennifer moved on to head the Office Integration group responsible for developing
the user interfaces necessary for word processors and other desktop applications to
access data residing in a BASISplus database. Thus was started her interest in the
desktop development arena.
After her move to Florida in 1993, Jennifer continued to build up her multi-platform
skills as Director of the Systems and Programming Division at the City of Hollywood. Here
she had responsibility for implementing and maintaining the metropolitan area network, the
helpdesk, the training lab and all software applications on the mainframe and PCs
city-wide.
